Ittzés Gergely: Multiphonic Sound Poems

Gergely Ittzés (1969– )
The outstanding flautist who does not limit his activity to contemporary music is not only a first-rate performer of composers of our age but he also writes pieces for his instrument. These works are innovative, built on the most contemporary technique of flute playing while in several cases were composed on inspiration coming from outside music. In the title of the score consisted of 8 compositions the adjective multiphonic refers the up-to-date flute technique while the word sound poems to the poetic influence of the music.
The works: L’effet Doppler, Projections, Circles, Zhuang Zi’s Dream, Sound Poems No.1, No.2, No.3, Ballad.

Ivan Madarasz: What Hamlet did not Tell Ophelia

Iván Madarász (1949– )
Certainly, this solo piece for flute does not continue the plot of  Shakespeare’s drama. It rather varies the possible conversations of Hamlet and Ophelia. Although the piece does not contain aleatoric elements, it rather challenges the dramaturgical phantasy of the performer. The different kinds of instrument playing gives the opportunity to the listener to recognise the voice of Hamlet here and Ophelia there.

Miklos Sugar:
Luxatio

    Miklós Sugar (1952– )
I wrote Luxatio for solo flute in the winter of 1988–89  for István Matuz.  In November 1988 I was in Opatija  at the Yogoslavian  Composers’ Festival, where I had an accident and dislocated my knee (luxatio is medical Latin for dislocated). Confined to bed for a long time, I composed this set of variations which attempts to make maximum use not only of the flute, but of its capacity for playfulness too.
