Peter Toth: Snare Drum Serenade

Péter Tóth (1965– )

I composed my Snare Drum Serenade in 2002 as an imaginary ballet?, silent film? I imagined three soldiers from the middle ages who begin ardently courting below the window of their sweethearts when returning from the battle. Each of them boasts of his heroic deed glorifying himself while diminishing the deeds of his comrades. They want to gain the heart yearned for overbiding each other. How much do they succeed? I leave it to the listener to judge – says the composer about his piece for three snare drums in one movement.
